There now seems to be a light at the end of the Mississauga housing tunnel. In the article “First-time buyers warm up January real estate market,” Torstar Network reports, “The first-time home buyer is back, in Mississauga and across the GTA.” That is good news.
As a moving company, one of our jobs is to help a family write the book of their life. Today, many people want to jumpstart the next stage in their life. Buying a house for the first is the logical step to accomplish that. The market is better than it was half a year ago, and has created an atmosphere of optimism, albeit reserved. Many prospective homebuyers have waited for the market to improve, and have saved money. They are ready; it seems the market is as well.
Although house sales were down in January, they were only down in the single digits as opposed to double digits. This is growth, even if it is small. Houses that were languishing helplessly on the market just a few months ago are suddenly hot ticket items, getting multiple offers from prospective homebuyers.
According to Toronto Real Estate Board President Ann Hannah, the strong January “suggests that some buyers who put their decision to purchase on hold last year due to stricter mortgage-lending guidelines are once again becoming active in the market.” Perhaps the sluggish market was a blessing in disguise. It allowed people to save more money. Are they better off? Possibly. After all, it is unwise to make a rash decision in an erratic market. Then again, some people make a lot of money making such decisions. However, for a first-time homeowner with a family, it is always good to have extra money. Nevertheless, now is the time to buy. Like Lazarus, the Mississauga housing market has risen from the dead. Time to start packing and unpacking those boxes!
