There are so many things to consider when making the big move to a new home. Of course, all of the horror stories that you hear don’t really help you in remaining calm, which is why we have a few tips on how to plan for a nearly stress-free move.
Now we want to emphasize the word “nearly” here because after all, we are talking about moving. You’re going to experience some stress – especially if you plan to move across the border – but there are some things you can do to make the process a little bit easier. One of which would be to do a thorough walk-through before anything is packed up. Make your way from room to room, identifying all the items that you want to move, all that you want to store, and all that you plan to donate or sell.
For those items that won’t be making the move to your new home, it’s important that you mark them with a clear sign for the movers. Something along the lines of “Do Not Move” should suffice, as long as you make sure that it is directly placed on each item and is secure enough to not fall off by mistake.
Once all of that is taken care of, make sure that you are present on the day of the move to oversee the moving process. If you are absolutely unable to be there, it would be a good idea to designate a trustworthy friend or relative to be there in your place. This way, you can be certain that the process was conducted correctly and efficiently.
